Features of Alpine Veterinary Hospital, based on the available reviews, present a mixed perspective:

It's been a few years, but my experience needs to be told. Our dog consumed yeast and had emergency surgery here. The vet assured us that despite his 8 years of age and underlying condition that his kidneys could handle it because we were worried about it. $3000 surgery and our beloved pet died in 2 weeks - from kidney failure. I warned the vet of an underlying condition that another vet at this Alpine Veterinary Hospital had diagnosed. I did extensive research after our dog died, and it turns out that this condition causes weak kidneys. The vet knew about the condition, but spent 15 minutes convincing us it was not a problem. We brought him in for a follow-up the day after surgery because he would not eat or drink (now I know that is a sign of kidney failure) and the vet did nothing - did not even exam him. After 2 hours of trying, some staff did convince our dog to eat a little bit of food - not nearly the recommend amount on the package - like 2 bites. I called and talked to the vet multiple times when days went on without him eating the VERY expensive food he insisted our dog eat. He had no suggestions and sounded clueless - said he would examine the dog, but did not believe anything could be done. After 2 weeks of our dog eating a few bites of cooked food every few days and forcing him to drink with a small baster, I took him to another vet who did blood tests and confirmed advanced kidney failure. Worse, the vet confirmed that had she known of the kidney problem soon after surgery, then there were inexpensive treatments. The only solution at that stage was a kidney transplant in Wisconsin for an estimated $20,000. We did not have that much so we had to put down our friend. The point is that after our dog CLEARLY had post-surgery problems, the vet could have spent an hour doing research - like I did - discovered the potential problem and ordered blood tests. He did nothing and took $3500 to extend our pet's life by 2 weeks - all of which were miserable for our friend. This clinic cares about 1 thing MONEY.

Recently had my dog in for a problem and it turned out to potentially be a more concerning problem. Dr Sanderson was wonderful and so compassionate and caring. He went over all the testing and then the options for treatment. He explained everything so well. I feel so lucky and blessed to have found this vet and his office! They are all wonderful, caring people!

While they attempted to fake caring, my visits were always left very disappointed. Between visits at the ER vet and here at Alpine for my sick and slowly dying cat, at Alpine I was constantly told 'I don't know', 'I'm not sure', and 'the specialist can tell you more'. The ER vet noted there should be a follow up cytology with regular vet which was sent to directly to Alpine, yet they overlooked that part of the notes so I had to do an extra visit for a higher fee rate to have this mistake fixed. The worst part for me was the vet asked ME if I thought my cat should come off antibiotics instead of the other way around which was really weird as if I knew any better? $500 bloodwork panel (basically all normal but 2 slightly elevated things) and I couldn't even be told anything that wasn't directly read off the printed out vague generic sheet. Overall I feel like my concerns were typically half listened to, I was never given any straight answers, and on top of all that there was no real sense of how emergent my cat needed care but they sure liked taking my money. My cat died a week after my last visit here, that's how emergent the care was needed. EDIT: To the point of their reply, specialist or not does not change that they neglected to do a follow up cytology without an extra visit and fee. Specialist or not would not change that I was asked to make judgement on whether my cat should continue on antibiotics or not. Specialist or not does not change that the bloodwork they suggested and performed on site could not even be read properly to me or interpreted by the vet to make any understanding of it. These are all actions done by this vet practice and point proven here that they only half listened to (and acknowledged) the reason of my review. Again it is truly disappointing and I regret trusting them with the care of my cat. Do better.

I asked multiple staff members different questions throughout my visit and all were knowledgeable and kind in their answers. They were gentle with my cat and explained to me well what they would be doing before they did it. I was helping a cat who was behind in their care and none of the staff allowed me to feel guilty, just glad she was there to get her shots and be fixed! Thank you for your kindness towards both Echo and myself. Your knowledge is impressive. I plan to bring my animals here now and I would recommend this vet to anyone who was looking for one. I caught a few names to give specific thanks. I know Karol M helped us get settled in and checked out. Dr Brockman was kind and quick, and the tech with her (i remember was pregnant, i’m so sorry we didn’t catch your name) was the same.
