I made an appointment 5 months in advance for my dog just to be told days before that though the doctor could do the consult I was scheduled for, he wouldn't be back until the Spring to do any of the dentistry. Which would have course require a new consult. This news was given to me just days before the consult. Their lack of planning for clients and their poor communication has set my pet’s dental health back almost a year. They could have easily let me know I needed to make other plans but didn’t.

All Pets Dental Care & Oral Surgery Introduce

Located at 3180 PA-940, Mt Pocono, PA 18344, USA, All Pets Dental Care & Oral Surgery is a highly specialized veterinary facility dedicated exclusively to pet dentistry and oral surgery. The clinic can be reached by phone at (570) 839-1922 or via mobile at +1 570-839-1922. Unlike general veterinary practices, this facility operates as a niche "Pet Hospital" focusing solely on the intricate and often complex field of oral health for animals. This specialization allows them to offer an advanced level of care for pets' teeth, gums, and oral structures.

Environment and Philosophy

All Pets Dental Care & Oral Surgery is committed to providing a caring, nurturing, and professional environment for pets undergoing specialized dental procedures. The clinic's philosophy is rooted in the understanding that pet dental care is a crucial aspect of their overall health and happiness, often overlooked by general veterinary practices or pet owners. They emphasize that, just like humans, pets can suffer from broken teeth, gum diseases, and misaligned bites that cause significant pain and hinder their ability to eat comfortably. The team believes that addressing these issues can dramatically improve a pet's quality of life.

The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technology specifically for dental diagnostics and procedures. Dr. Joseph Valese, the founder, designed the clinic to be a referral center, indicating a high standard of equipment and expertise. They strive to provide a safe environment for pets, especially given that many dental procedures require anesthesia. The compassionate approach extends to educating pet owners, ensuring they understand the necessity and details of the recommended treatments. This focus on clear communication aims to alleviate owner concerns and build trust.

The clinic's business hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with Wednesday and Sunday closed. This schedule is tailored to accommodate specialized procedures and consultations.

Services Offered

All Pets Dental Care & Oral Surgery provides a comprehensive range of advanced dental and oral surgical services for pets. Their specialized focus means they handle cases that may be beyond the scope of a general veterinary practice. Services include, but are not limited to:

  • Pet Teeth Cleaning (Prophylaxis): Routine and thorough cleanings to remove plaque and tartar and maintain oral hygiene.
  • Endodontics: This includes procedures such as root canal therapy for fractured or diseased teeth, aiming to save teeth rather than extract them.
  • Exodontics: Surgical extractions of damaged or diseased teeth when saving them is not possible or advisable.
  • Oral Surgery: Addressing a wide range of oral issues, including masses, fractured jaws, and other soft tissue or bone conditions within the mouth.
  • Orthodontics: Corrective procedures for misaligned teeth and bites (e.g., "doggie braces" for comfort and function).
  • Periodontics: Treatment for gum disease (periodontal disease), which is a common and serious condition in pets, affecting the tooth attachment apparatus.
  • Restorations and Crowns: Repairing damaged teeth with fillings or crowns to restore their function and prevent further decay.
  • Diagnostic Imaging: Utilizing advanced imaging techniques like intra-oral X-rays for detailed assessment of dental structures, which is critical for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Pocket Pet Dentistry: Specialized dental care tailored for small animals like rodents and rabbits.

The clinic’s extensive training and experience allow them to handle complex cases such as canine and feline periodontal disease, developmental problems where primary teeth don't fall out, and trauma resulting in broken teeth or jaws. They are also equipped to manage oral swellings and tooth resorptions (common in cats).

Features and Expertise

The cornerstone of All Pets Dental Care & Oral Surgery is Dr. Joseph Valese DVM. Dr. Valese received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Michigan State University in 1983 and holds a Master of Science degree from Rutgers University. Critically, he has spent many additional years post-graduation in the specialized study and practice of pet dentistry and oral surgery, areas not typically covered in depth during standard veterinary school curricula. This advanced training makes him an expert in periodontal therapy, oral surgery, root canal therapy, difficult extractions, repair of broken teeth, and orthodontic care for pets.

Dr. Valese founded All Pets Dental Care & Oral Surgery in 1999, specifically to focus on this niche, and he has also owned and operated the Animal Hospital of Mt. Pocono since 1986. He is recognized by his peers as a pet dental care expert and receives referrals from surrounding veterinary practices in Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey, highlighting his reputation and specialized capabilities. As the sole veterinarian at All Pets Dental Care & Oral Surgery, Dr. Valese ensures continuity of care, personally getting to know each patient.

The staff at All Pets Dental Care & Oral Surgery, including certified veterinary technicians like Kali McCullough who has a special interest in dental cleaning, are highly trained to assist in these specialized procedures. Customer feedback frequently praises Dr. Valese and his crew for their "outstanding care." One former vet tech, thoroughly impressed, noted that Dr. Valese took the time to explain the root canal procedure in detail, listened to questions, and provided a comprehensive discharge folder including before-and-after pictures and X-rays of the work done. This level of transparency and documentation is a significant feature, providing peace of mind to pet owners.

However, an objective view also requires acknowledging challenges. One review highlighted a severe communication issue regarding scheduling and treatment availability. The client made an appointment five months in advance for a consultation, only to be informed days before that the necessary dentistry procedure would not be available until much later (the following Spring), requiring a new consult. This "lack of planning for clients and their poor communication" set the pet's dental health back "almost a year," leading to significant dissatisfaction. This indicates that while the clinical care may be excellent, administrative and scheduling communication can be an area for improvement, especially given the long wait times for specialized procedures.

Promotional Information

While specific ongoing promotional offers like discounts for new clients or referral programs are not explicitly listed in the provided information, the clinic's promotional strategy primarily revolves around its specialized expertise and reputation as a referral center. The fact that general veterinarians refer their complex dental cases to Dr. Valese is a powerful endorsement of his capabilities. The detailed explanations and post-procedure documentation, as praised by clients, serve as organic promotional tools, building strong client trust and positive word-of-mouth recommendations.

The clinic's website likely features information on the importance of pet dental health, which acts as an educational and promotional tool, emphasizing the necessity of their specialized services. Given their focus, their "goods for sale" would primarily be related to oral hygiene, such as dental chews, special toothbrushes, or prescribed oral care products, directly supporting the longevity of their dental treatments.

Dr. Valese and the crew at All Pets Dental took outstanding care of my dog Lulu when she was in for a root canal on a broken canine tooth recently. Dr. Valese explained what was needed and how the procedure was to be performed in detail. He took the time to listen to me and answer all my questions. The rest of the staff were super nice and helpful too. After the procedure, Dr. Valese himself went over Lulu's discharge instructions and sent us home with a folder of before and after pictures and xrays of the work done. As a former vet tech myself, I was really impressed and thought this was a very nice part of the services performed. I would definitely recommend All Pets Dental!! I just wish I lived closer since Lulu hates car rides!!

Our cat suffered from stomatitis and had to have all his teeth (minus the 4 canines) removed. He recovered so quickly and didn't seem to be in any discomfort. You will pay more at a specialist than at your local vet but it was well worth the ease and comfort for out cat. Brittany was so kind and always kept us in the loop when it came to his appointments, during the procedure, and his aftercare. They do take care credit as well which is a huge help!

Dr. Valese is an excellant dentist. He took great care of my dogs before during and after their dental surgery. He was very attentive and caring with them. He was great with managing the after surgery pain. My dogs actually ate very well that night. He answers all your questions before you even know what to ask. He also has a great staff. They're all very kind and great with all their patients. And Kelly has all the info you need before you even talk with the doctor. Everyone there really cares about about the pets and their owners. It was very comforting to me to know they were being well taken care of with so much compassion and experience. Thank you Dr. Valese and staff for all these years of care for my dogs. My family and my boys are very grateful!

I really do not appreciate doctors in general, but vets especially, to make a pet come in for a 10 minute evaluation costing $150 to determine if my dogs teeth need to be cleaned. I know they need to be cleaned, I just want to have them cleaned, why does this vet charge me to look at their teeth before he decides how to clean them...ask that out loud and tell me how it makes sense and I will remove my review! I really do not know this vet at all...but I also know I never want to know this vet! I will update this review with an alternative vet to see in the area!
