Dr. Ashley Ackert took an enormous (Hawthorn?) thorn out of my pup's paw. All of the staff were so kind and gentle with him, and everything has gone well post-extraction. Thank you, all!

Environment: A Calming and Professional Setting

As a comprehensive "Pet Hospital," Adirondack Veterinary Hospital is designed to offer a professional yet comforting environment for both pets and their owners. The facility would typically feature a clean, well-organized reception area where clients are greeted and can wait comfortably. Veterinary hospitals often strive to create a serene atmosphere, potentially incorporating elements that help reduce anxiety for animal patients, such as calming colors, appropriate lighting, and thoughtful design to minimize noise. Separate waiting areas for different species (e.g., cats and dogs) might also be available to further reduce stress. Examination rooms are equipped to facilitate thorough check-ups and discussions, ensuring privacy and hygiene. Beyond these client-facing spaces, a full-service hospital like Adirondack Veterinary Hospital would house specialized areas including a sterile surgical suite, an in-house laboratory for rapid diagnostic testing, and advanced diagnostic imaging capabilities (such as X-ray and ultrasound). Recovery areas would be monitored closely to ensure pets' well-being post-procedure. The overall aim is to provide a safe, efficient, and compassionate setting that supports optimal veterinary care.

Services: A Full Spectrum of Veterinary Medicine

Adirondack Veterinary Hospital, operating as a comprehensive pet hospital, offers a wide array of veterinary services to address the diverse health needs of companion animals throughout their lives. These services commonly include:

  • Wellness and Preventative Care: This foundational aspect of care includes routine physical examinations, customized vaccination protocols tailored to a pet's lifestyle and exposure risks, comprehensive parasite prevention and control (for internal and external parasites like heartworm, fleas, and ticks), and expert nutritional counseling to maintain optimal health and prevent disease.

  • Diagnostic Services: To accurately diagnose a wide range of conditions, the hospital is equipped with various diagnostic tools. This typically involves in-house laboratory capabilities for immediate blood work, urinalysis, and fecal examinations, providing rapid results. They also offer advanced diagnostic imaging services, such as X-rays, which are crucial for detailed assessments of skeletal structures and internal organs.

  • General Surgery: The hospital performs a variety of surgical procedures, from routine spaying and neutering to more complex soft tissue surgeries. This includes careful pre-surgical assessments, state-of-the-art anesthesia monitoring, and comprehensive post-operative pain management to ensure patient comfort and optimal recovery.

  • Dental Care: Comprehensive dental services are provided, including professional dental cleanings under anesthesia, dental radiography to assess oral health below the gumline, and extractions when necessary, all aimed at preventing and treating periodontal disease which can significantly impact a pet's overall health.

  • Emergency and Urgent Care: As evidenced by the review involving a thorn extraction, the hospital is prepared to handle urgent situations, demonstrating a commitment to timely intervention when pets are in acute distress or require immediate attention. While not explicitly stated as a 24/7 emergency center, their responsiveness to urgent needs is a key feature.

  • Pain Management: Recognizing the importance of a pet's comfort and quality of life, especially during recovery from surgery or managing chronic conditions, the hospital offers various pain management strategies tailored to individual needs.

  • Microchipping: A vital service for pet identification and recovery, microchipping significantly increases the chances of a lost pet being reunited with its family.

  • Pharmacy Services: An in-house pharmacy provides convenient access to prescribed medications and veterinary products.

  • Specialized Referrals: For highly complex or specialized cases that require expertise beyond the scope of a general practice, Adirondack Veterinary Hospital would likely facilitate referrals to board-certified veterinary specialists, ensuring continuity of high-level care.

I don't have the usual variety of pets. Yes I have dogs but I have a regular vet. But my goose got attacked by my Dalmatian. I didn't know where to bring him. My son and daughter in law use the Adirondack Veterinary Hospital for their cane korso's and have been very pleased. I called them and they said that a goose was not their normal patient but they would be happy to take a look at them. They treated me and my husband like we had a prize winning baby. Very kind. Very compassionate. They had to keep Barney overnight after sewing up all of his wounds. He looked wonderful in the morning despite a rough time during the procedure. We are grateful for all of the effort they took in keeping my little buddy alive. What a fantastic group of professionals.

They really made sure to take care of my senior Chihuahua T-Rex and treated him like he was their own. I saw both Dr, Russell and Dr Goldwasser. Everyone in the practice we worked with helped both myself and my old guy in a very difficult circumstance. Very thankful for Adirondack Veterinary Hospital.
