Welcome to ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospitals - San Fernando Valley

ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospitals - San Fernando Valley, located in Woodland Hills, California, is a premier "Pet Hospital" that primarily functions as a comprehensive referral center for advanced emergency, critical care, and specialty veterinary services. Unlike a typical general practice clinic, ACCESS is designed to handle complex medical cases, urgent situations, and provide in-depth care across numerous veterinary disciplines. A crucial, integrated component of their high-level service delivery is their on-site pharmacy, which ensures immediate access to the specialized medications and supplies necessary for treating critically ill or complex cases.

Environment: A Hub of Advanced Veterinary Medicine

The facility at ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospitals - San Fernando Valley, located at 20051 Ventura Blvd, Woodland Hills, CA, is a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital built to support advanced medical procedures and intensive care. This robust environment operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including all holidays, ensuring continuous availability for pets in critical need. The hospital is equipped with cutting-edge diagnostic and imaging technologies, including advanced X-ray, Ultrasound, MRI, CT scanners, fluoroscopy, and endoscopy suites. These specialized areas allow for rapid and precise diagnoses, which are essential when dealing with emergency and complex cases.

Integral to this high-tech environment is their comprehensive in-house laboratory. This lab is capable of performing a wide array of tests, such as complete blood counts (CBC), chemistry panels, blood gas analysis, and specialized assays (like I-stat, SCA2000, SnapDx, VetTest, TEG), yielding rapid results. This immediate access to diagnostic data is critical for making swift, informed decisions in emergency and critical care scenarios.

Within this sophisticated medical setting, ACCESS maintains a professional, yet compassionate atmosphere. The teams of emergency-trained doctors, board-certified veterinary specialists, and highly skilled veterinary technicians work collaboratively. The design of the facility and the approach of the staff prioritize minimizing stress for pets and providing reassurance and clear communication for pet owners during often challenging times. The presence of specialized waiting areas and patient wards further enhances the hospital's capacity to deliver focused, calm care.

Services: Beyond General Practice, Integrated with a Robust Pharmacy

ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospitals - San Fernando Valley offers an extensive array of veterinary services, often serving as a referral center for pets needing care beyond what a primary veterinarian can provide. The integrated, on-site pharmacy plays a vital role in delivering these services, ensuring that necessary medications are immediately available for complex and emergency treatments:

  • 24-Hour Emergency Care: As a primary service, immediate medical attention is provided for sudden illnesses, injuries, or life-threatening conditions. The in-house pharmacy is critical here, allowing for immediate dispensing of life-saving medications, pain relief, and other urgent prescriptions without delay.
  • Critical Care: Their Intensive Care Unit (ICU) provides around-the-clock, intensive management for pets with severe medical conditions. This includes advanced life support, continuous monitoring, and specialized therapies. The pharmacy ensures a constant supply of a wide range of critical care drugs, from sedatives and analgesics to advanced cardiovascular and respiratory support medications.
  • Internal Medicine: Specialists diagnose and manage complex non-surgical conditions. The pharmacy stocks a vast array of medications for chronic illnesses, gastrointestinal disorders, endocrine diseases, and more, ensuring long-term management plans can be initiated promptly.
  • Cardiology: Addressing heart and circulatory system conditions, the pharmacy provides specific cardiac medications, anti-arrhythmics, and other drugs essential for managing heart disease.
  • Neurology: For disorders of the nervous system, the pharmacy supplies anti-seizure medications, corticosteroids, and other specialized drugs required for neurological conditions.
  • Surgery: Offering advanced soft tissue and orthopedic surgical procedures, the pharmacy provides all necessary pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative medications, including anesthetics, antibiotics, and pain management drugs.
  • Avian & Exotic Pet Care: This specialized department provides both routine and advanced care for diverse species. The pharmacy is equipped with a unique inventory of medications tailored for avian, reptilian, and small mammal patients, often requiring different dosages and formulations.
  • Oncology: For cancer treatment, the pharmacy manages the procurement and dispensing of various chemotherapy agents, supportive care medications, and other drugs vital for cancer management plans.
  • Nephrology with Advanced Therapies: For kidney diseases, the pharmacy supplies medications for dialysis, fluid management, and other specialized treatments like intermittent hemodialysis and plasma exchange.
  • Urology: Addressing urinary system conditions, the pharmacy provides antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and other relevant medications.

The on-site pharmacy streamlines patient care by eliminating the need for pet owners to travel to external pharmacies, especially during emergencies or after complex procedures. This immediate access to medication is invaluable for prompt treatment and patient comfort.

Features: Integrated Pharmacy, Advanced Technology, and Collaborative Expertise

ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospitals - San Fernando Valley's operational model, especially with its integrated pharmacy, offers several distinct features:

  • Integrated, Full-Service Pharmacy: This is a cornerstone feature. Unlike general practices that might rely on external pharmacies, ACCESS has a comprehensive pharmacy within its facility. This ensures immediate access to a vast range of veterinary medications, including specialized drugs, controlled substances, and custom compounds often needed in critical or complex cases. This integration significantly improves treatment turnaround times and patient outcomes.
  • 24/7 Availability of Medications: Because the hospital operates around the clock, its pharmacy is also functionally available 24/7. This means that at any hour, day or night, the necessary medications for an emergency or critical patient can be dispensed immediately, which is crucial for saving lives.
  • Board-Certified Specialists and Sub-specialties: The presence of multiple board-certified specialists in diverse fields (e.g., Cardiology, Neurology, Oncology, Surgery, Emergency & Critical Care, Avian & Exotics, Internal Medicine, Nephrology) ensures expert diagnosis and treatment. The pharmacy staff are often knowledgeable about these specific medications and their proper handling.
  • Advanced Diagnostic & Therapeutic Equipment: The hospital鈥檚 investment in cutting-edge technology (MRI, CT, advanced ultrasound, fluoroscopy, ventilators like Pulmonetics or Maquet Servo critical care ventilators) is complemented by the pharmacy's ability to supply the drugs needed for these procedures (e.g., contrast agents for imaging, specific anesthetics).
  • Collaborative Care Model: The various specialty departments work seamlessly, with the pharmacy acting as a central support system. This interdisciplinary approach ensures that all aspects of a pet's health, including their medication needs, are coordinated efficiently.
  • Focus on Patient Safety: An in-house pharmacy allows for strict control over medication quality, storage, and dispensing protocols, minimizing errors and enhancing patient safety.
Promotional Information: Emphasizing Comprehensive Care and Immediate Access to Treatment

ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospitals - San Fernando Valley's promotional strategies highlight its unique capabilities as a specialty and emergency veterinary hospital, with the integrated pharmacy being an implicit, yet crucial, part of its value proposition. Their messaging emphasizes:

  • Unmatched 24/7 Emergency and Critical Care: This is their most prominent promotional point. They assure pet owners that expert, immediate care, supported by readily available medications, is always within reach for urgent situations.
  • Specialized Expertise and Advanced Treatment Options: They actively promote their various specialty departments and the expertise of their board-certified veterinarians. The implication is that if a pet requires a specific, often rare, medication or complex drug regimen, their in-house pharmacy is equipped to provide it.
  • State-of-the-Art Facilities and Technology: Advertising their advanced diagnostic and treatment equipment also implicitly promotes their ability to dispense specialized drugs that may be required for these high-tech procedures.
  • Referral-Based Services: They communicate their role as a referral center, educating primary care veterinarians about their capabilities and the comprehensive support they offer, including the prompt supply of medications for referred cases.
  • Client Education and Support: While not a direct pharmacy promotion, providing comprehensive information about complex conditions and treatment plans often includes discussions about medication protocols, which the on-site pharmacy can immediately fulfill.
  • Online Presence and Information: Their website provides detailed information about their services, doctors, and specialties. While the pharmacy itself might not have a separate promotional page for the general public, its seamless integration into the hospital's operations is a core strength that underpins all their services.

In essence, ACCESS Specialty Animal Hospitals - San Fernando Valley positions itself as a critical hub for advanced veterinary medicine. Their comprehensive in-house pharmacy is not just a service; it's a fundamental operational feature that enables their ability to provide rapid, high-quality, and specialized care for pets in the most demanding medical situations.

When you need a specialist to diagnose your pet, this is the place to go! Super friendly & committed staff. Our local vet has been great with vaccinations & general care, but this time that wasn't enough. We needed extra care to get our Kona Bear back on her feet & on the road to recovery. Hands down they exceeded our expectations.

I'm so grateful for my experience with Access. We had a situation with our little pup this morning as she tends to eat or chew on everything in sight. We have no idea what she got into but she was VERY sick. Since our normal vet office wasn't available, I took her straight to Access. The staff, the triage nurse and the Dr was nothing short of amazing! It definitely wasn't cheap, but it was worth every penny we spent. Most of the negative reviews on here are about how expensive it is at Access but the truth is that our pets are our family and professional care in general is expensive... whether human or pet! We want what's best for us, so why not do what's best for them. Thank you Access... for being there when our regular vet couldn't, for your incredible service, for your care (including follow up!) and professionalism! If I need future services for any of my pets, I will definitely not hesitate to come back.

Nothing was wrong at all.... actually quite the contrary...... But there wasn't any place to share that other than posting a review, which I will do... But have to say, your team on the emergency side was outstanding. The care, the communication, the personalization..... Truly shined through for each person.....even in the toughest situations.... We were there 6 hours, didn't get great news, but we are able to watch many many clients come in and all were treated so well. Thank you team for putting up with all of it. A thankless job, but you you're doing great at it. Thank you for ALL you do!!!!!

I brought Belle to the emergency because her vet wasn't in and she looked so uncomfortable with what might be a UTI. They told me it may be a while and I got it because the waiting room was basically full. Then they came and asked if I wanted to be on the urgent care list and that even though the appt wasn't for an hour it may be faster. As soon as it was her appt time they took her back, the vet came to talk to me, they ran the tests and the vet came back to go over them and I even got a copy. They all seemed on top of it and my Belle who hates being out of the house was home within 2 hours even with the hour wait time. I would definitely come back for the urgent care. Dr.Serex and her team were super nice and efficient and Belle feels much better already.
