Academy Animal Hospital

In '71 this was my 1st job as a vet tech! We were the ONLY place out there in Solana Beach! Dr George Goudy was the practioner and builder. He was an amazing Dr and people (including celebrities) would come from all over the states, especially for his orthopedic knowledge! He pioneered compression plating in those days. He was a brilliant and kind man. We were one of the very few hospitals around that brought in a cardiologist specialist every 3 mo for cardiac care. We had a pathologist (can't think of his name off hand) come in every 3 mo as well to do important necropsies. He actually worked for Sea World, San Diego but he was a personal friend of Dr G's. Oh the stories they would tell. G loved to teach and he would post cases each day on the white board and we would discuss and learn. Oh I miss that man and I credit him with most of my medical knowledge to this day, 50 yrs later! Just vame to see how the area has changed. Doesn't look like the bldg has changed much at all. I kinda expected it to be 2 or 3 times the org size but it isn't. I do miss the beautiful hand carved Mexican wooden doors on the bed tho. Looks like the front bump put with the iron work door might still be an apartment....for our live in vet tech. Good times.

We needed a vet in the area for our new puppy and found Academy on Google. We made an appointment for Bruno and had to change our appointment a couple times but the staff were always so warm and understanding. We felt so welcome on our first visit and Bruno was so comfortable with the staff and most especially Dr. Beccari. I just instantly felt that everyone cared about Bruno and every puppy visit since has been the same experience. Looking forward to a lifetime of healthy visits to Academy for Bruno.

Academy Animal Hospital has changed my opinion on vets. My dog Titan hasn’t been to a vet in 9 years mainly because of horrible past experiences where I just seemed to pay for things I didn’t need. Dr Ellis was so caring and was mindful of care required and care I didn’t need. I won’t be going anywhere else!

The team at Academy are the kindest group of people. They have supported the health and wellness of my fur babies for over 15 years. They have celebrated the introduction of new kittens, found solutions for kitten health issues and supported me and my senior cats when their health declined and eventually I had to say good bye.

I came here for an exam and to schedule dental work for my senior pup. I brought his brother because he can’t stand being left alone. Staff were very kind and accommodating. I’m sure his dental worth will go smoothly, and I hope to make this my regular vet.

I have been taking my dog to Academy Animal Hospital for 11 years. The professionalism and care that everyone on the staff has for me and my dog is stellar. The technical knowledge of the vets, vet techs are top notch and I would not take my dog anywhere else for her primary care. The front desk reps are also really delightful and always make me and my dog feel welcome.

All of the vets here have been wonderful during my first year as a dog mom, but this review is specifically for Dr. Bartz, who I am SO incredibly grateful for. My pup recently got sick with multiple things and she really calmed me down! Her approach was practical yet thoughtful, and she followed up with me MULTIPLE times to check in on my sick puppy, and also pivoted treatment plan when necessary. I believe she recently joined the practice and she is a fantastic addition. So grateful for Dr. Julie Bartz! Dr. Reiman and the front desk were also very helpful during this crazy month of illnesses. I am happy to report he is back to his happy, healthy self. Thank you, team!

I have taken my pets to Academy Animal Hospital since I moved to San Diego over 3 years ago. The whole staff is welcoming and friendly. The doctors always go over everything in detail and listen to your concerns, they are very professional. There are always follow up calls after visits to see how my pet is or if I have questions.I live a distance from them and continue to use their services.
