A great and caring staff, with excellent care. Even they couldn't stop my very old cat from dying, but I was so impressed with how well he, my cat , Madison, felt well enough to jump on my bed, two weeks before he passed because of the medicine, diet, and care he received. I was vaklempt when I received a sympathy card signed by every single one of the staff.

Welcome to Abri Veterinary Hospital
Welcome to an overview of Abri Veterinary Hospital. Located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA, this "Pet Hospital" offers veterinary services and potentially related goods. While direct access to their facilities is not available for users in Singapore, examining the experiences of their clients can provide valuable insights into the spectrum of care that a veterinary hospital can offer, both positive and negative. This information can help you, as local users in Singapore, discern the qualities to look for—and perhaps to avoid—when choosing a veterinary care provider for your beloved pets.
Abri Veterinary Hospital has elicited a range of responses from its clientele, as reflected in the online reviews. One customer shared a deeply positive experience, highlighting the caring nature of the staff and the excellent care provided, even in the face of a terminal illness. This review praised the staff's compassion, noting that their old cat was made comfortable enough to enjoy his final weeks, and the client was touched by a sympathy card signed by the entire team.
However, another review presents a starkly contrasting experience, alleging negligence that purportedly led to a cat's miscarriage. This review strongly advises others to avoid the clinic, raising serious concerns about the standard of care provided in at least one instance.
A more detailed account describes a situation involving a stray pregnant cat brought in for an eye injury. This review mentions that while pregnancy was suspected by the owner and the veterinarian, Dr. Dugan, no immediate imaging (like X-ray or ultrasound) was done to confirm it. The cat was diagnosed with coccidia and prescribed Albon. The reviewer states they were not informed about potential side effects or contraindications for pregnant cats. Upon administering the medication, the cat developed concerning symptoms, and the owner's research indicated that Albon should not be given to pregnant cats. Despite contacting the clinic, the owner continued the medication based on advice received, which was that not treating the coccidia would be more harmful. Tragically, the cat subsequently miscarried two near-term kittens. The reviewer expresses heartbreak and wonders if the outcome could have been different with more information or a different course of action.
Environment and Staff
Based on the reviews, the environment at Abri Veterinary Hospital seems to be perceived differently by different clients. One review praises a "great and caring staff," suggesting a positive and supportive atmosphere. In contrast, another review mentions a "rude blonde girl" identified as a vet tech, indicating that not all interactions are positive. The overall environment, therefore, might be characterized by a mix of caring and less satisfactory interactions, depending on individual experiences with specific staff members.

Applying These Insights to Your Local Search in Singapore
For pet owners in Singapore seeking a "Pet Hospital," the varied experiences at Abri Veterinary Hospital underscore several critical factors to consider when choosing a local veterinary care provider:
- Reputation for Compassionate Care: Look for clinics with consistently positive feedback regarding the staff's caring attitude.
- Thoroughness in Diagnosis and Treatment: Ensure the clinic you choose is known for its diligence in diagnosing conditions and considering all relevant factors, such as pregnancy, before prescribing medication.
- Clear Communication: Opt for a veterinary hospital that prioritizes clear and comprehensive communication about diagnoses, treatments, and potential side effects of medications.
- Professionalism of Staff: Positive interactions with all staff members, including vets, technicians, and front desk personnel, contribute to a better overall experience.
- Consider Multiple Reviews: A single positive or negative review may not tell the whole story. Look for patterns in feedback to get a more balanced understanding of a clinic's quality.

Mar 11, 2025 · kd rouseI would avoid this place at all costs and take your pets elsewhere if you care for their well being. My cat had a miscarriage due to their negligence. I brought in a young female cat who was a stray I found. She went in for an eye injury consult, rabies vaccine, and a few other tests such as a fecal exam. They said she tested positive for coccidia, an intestinal parasite. She was very small, with a round belly, and big pink nipples- showing all the signs of pregnancy. Despite her eye injury, she was very healthy looking and eating. I let both the vet tech (an incredibly rude blonde girl) and Dr. Dugan know that I thought she could be pregnant, and he said he was suspicious as well but we didn’t do an x-ray or ultrasound that day. Dr. Dugan prescribed her Albon, a medication for coccidia. He didn’t speak of the side effects and only said to give it to her to treat the coccidia. I do as prescribed and over the next few days she’s pooping mucus, blood, and water. Barely eating. I look up the medication and if it’s safe for pregnant cats, and the first thing says to not give it to pregnant cats. I call them and Dr. Dugan is not in, and I’m told by another vet that not treating the coccidia will hurt her and the kittens more than taking it. So I continue giving her the medication because I tried to trust in their advice. This morning I found my cat will two almost full term, healthy looking kittens. Both did not make it. As heartbreaking at that is, I know the world doesn’t need more cats. But I can’t stop thinking that if I hadn’t given her the medication, she would have had kittens in a couple weeks. There is a feral cat colony in my neighborhood that has kittens running around, all looking seemingly healthy. I’m sure all these cats have coccidia as well. I wish this place would have been more informative on the medication prescribed or taken her pregnancy more seriously. Maybe if they had done this, my cat wouldn’t have lost her babies.
Apr 30, 2025 · Myra SolisWe cannot say enough good things about Abri Vet, we will never go anywhere else. We have two dobermans and they have gone to Abri vet since we brought them home as puppies. From the front desk staff to the vet techs, everyone is so personable and kind. They are responsive, prompt and easy to communicate with. The vets (and vet techs too) are SO good with the girls. And the girls love them back. We have seen a few of the veterinarians and have loved them all (Dr. Dugan, Reece, and one that has since retired.) They all give amazing care and are great with the animals; they spend time with them and I never leave with unanswered questions. Highly recommend!
Mar 04, 2025 · AbbyStaff are always so nice and truly concerned over my Mabel Rose. This was also the first time I had met Dr Dugan. He was awesome! Did a indepth assessment of Mabel's issues, even reviewing the food she eats. He showed concern and came up with a plan that is already making a difference with her allergies. Much appreciated!
Nov 09, 2024 · Teresa MessickThis was my first time using Abri, as my regular vet was unable to get us in and I was very concerned about one of my foster kittens. I was frantically calling around trying to be fit in somewhere and the receptionist (Mackenzie I think) was so compassionate and was able to squeeze me in for a last minute, same day appointment. Not only that, but Dr. Reece was so knowledgeable and actually rescues cats herself so she understood my concerns. I will definitely be back!
