I moved to Scituate from Hopkinton and decided to use the boutique style veterinarian 143 in cohasett(despite a warning from a dog trainer). The Veterinarian techs and Dr. Lucas were all amazing, and my new puppy loved Katherine at the front desk along with Dr. Lucas. Unfortunately, when their care counted the most(my three dogs were struggling to eradicate Giardia and tape worm) I had a very unprofessional and alarming experience with Dr. Watkins the owner. Basically, everything was great, until I needed some help and then I was met with complete unprofessionalism, rudeness and Dr. Watkins frustration getting the best of her. When I asked her why she speaking to me so rudely, her response was “you are being rude”….um what? I understand people have bad days and perhaps my frustration was interpreted as being rude, but I was completely caught off guard and was worried about my dogs. Dr. Watkins proceeded to show zero concern for my dogs when they needed care the most, especially my new puppy. A day or two later I asked for my dogs records(she answered the phone) and never gave them to me. I was able to get them a week later once the office manager Katherine returned from vacation.

Welcome to 143 Veterinary Services
143 Veterinary Services, located at 790 Chief Justice Cushing Hwy, Cohasset, MA 02025, USA, positions itself as a "boutique-style" veterinary practice within the "Pet Hospital" category. This designation suggests a focus on personalized care, a welcoming atmosphere, and perhaps a more intimate client experience compared to larger, more corporate veterinary establishments. Serving the Cohasset community and surrounding areas, this facility aims to provide comprehensive medical care for beloved companion animals, primarily dogs and cats.
The environment at 143 Veterinary Services is consistently described by clients as clean and caring. A clean and well-maintained facility is crucial in any veterinary setting, contributing to a professional image and minimizing the risk of infection. The "boutique style" likely translates to a thoughtfully designed space that prioritizes comfort for both pets and their owners. This could involve calming colors, comfortable seating, and perhaps separate waiting areas for dogs and cats to reduce stress. The positive remarks about the front desk staff, like Katherine, suggest a friendly and organized reception area, which is the first point of contact and significantly shapes a client's initial impression. A welcoming and calm environment is especially important for animals, who can often be anxious during veterinary visits, and the aim of a boutique practice would be to mitigate such anxieties.
143 Veterinary Services offers a range of core veterinary services essential for maintaining the health and well-being of companion animals. While a detailed list of all services is not explicitly provided in the available information, the context of a "Pet Hospital" and client reviews strongly implies comprehensive care. This would typically include:
- Wellness and Preventive Care: Routine check-ups, vaccinations, parasite prevention (fleas, ticks, heartworm), and nutritional counseling.
- Diagnostics: In-house laboratory testing (blood work, urinalysis, fecal exams), potentially radiography (X-rays), and other diagnostic tools to accurately identify health issues.
- Medical Treatment: Diagnosis and management of various illnesses, including common conditions like ear infections, skin allergies, and gastrointestinal issues.
- Minor Surgery: Common soft-tissue surgeries such as spaying, neutering, and lump removals.
- Dental Care: Professional teeth cleaning, extractions, and other dental procedures to maintain oral health.
- Pharmacy: Dispensing necessary medications for various conditions.
The review mentioning struggles with "Giardia and tapeworm" indicates that the clinic handles common parasitic infections, and the quick "diagnose same day" service for a new client in need suggests efficient diagnostic capabilities. The fact that they accept new clients in times of need also highlights their responsiveness and willingness to assist animals requiring urgent attention, even if not a full emergency service.
Several features distinguish 143 Veterinary Services, particularly as a boutique-style practice. The personalization of care is a prominent aspect, as highlighted by a client who appreciated the "boutique style" despite prior warnings. The positive interactions with Dr. Lucas and the veterinary technicians, who were described as "amazing," underscore a team that is attentive and skilled. The mention of a puppy loving Katherine at the front desk suggests a staff that genuinely enjoys animals and creates a positive experience, which is crucial for building trust with both pets and their owners. This level of individualized attention and the friendly demeanor of the staff are key selling points for a boutique practice, aiming to make each visit feel less transactional and more like a partnership in pet care.
However, it is important to address a significant feature that emerges from client feedback: a reported inconsistency in client service, particularly from Dr. Watkins, the owner. While many aspects of the care provided by Dr. Lucas and the rest of the team are highly praised, one review details an "unprofessional and alarming experience" where the owner's frustration reportedly led to rudeness and a perceived lack of concern during a critical time for the dogs. This incident, including the reported failure to promptly provide medical records, suggests that while the day-to-day interactions with staff may be excellent, there might be variability in the owner's direct client communication, especially under pressure. This aspect, though a singular highlighted negative review, is a critical point for potential clients to consider when choosing a personalized, boutique service where direct interaction with the owner may be more frequent.
Promotional information for 143 Veterinary Services likely relies heavily on word-of-mouth referrals and online reviews, given the "boutique" nature. Satisfied clients who appreciate the personalized care, clean facility, and kindness of the staff (like Dr. Lucas and Katherine) would be natural advocates. The ability to quickly diagnose and accept new clients in urgent situations would also serve as a strong promotional point, demonstrating responsiveness and capability. While specific ongoing promotions are not detailed, the focus on building strong client relationships and providing a comfortable, caring environment acts as its own form of promotion, aiming to foster loyalty and positive testimonials. The anticipation of "annual visits" by satisfied clients further indicates a successful model for building long-term client relationships. For potential clients, the promise of a "very caring" and "clean facility" combined with "kind and accommodating" staff and doctors (excluding the highlighted negative interaction) are the primary draws, suggesting a dedication to creating a pleasant and effective veterinary experience for pets and their owners in Cohasset.

May 29, 2024 · Josephine RobertsWe love 143! Diana has taken care of my vizslas for years now and we trust her dearly. If you are looking for a vet who cares for your animal like it was her own, I would highly recommend checking out 143. The location is also super convenient and the set up is very calming for your dogs... my dogs have never liked the vet (high anxiety), but are happy at 143! Photo for reference...
